  HELLO FRIENDS,

  • NUTRITIONAL TIDBIT - Oh Where, Oh Where, Have Omega 3's Gone
  •  For so many years people were anti-fat in their diet, counting every fat gram and considering fat as an enemy of the people. Now experts are looking at the need for fat as essential to good health. We get plenty of other fats but, Omega 3 fatty acids are in short supply and disappearing from our foods. EPA and DHA are Omega 3 fatty acids important to every cell in the body, as they reduce inflammation, are necessary for brain and nerve function and cardiovascular health. Omega 3's are found in meat, coldwater fish and of course in nutritional supplements.

This type of fat appears in certain meats, but only if the cattle is grass fed. Most of our beef including organic, is grain fed, so only the omega 6 fatty acids are prevalent. We get enough omega 6's in our diets - it is the omega 3's that are in short supply.

Now the fish story - cold water fish - especially salmon - is thought to have a high concentration of omega 3's and very good for our health. But alas - it has been kept a secret that the correct kind of salmon is Wild Salmon not farm produced. Most of what we buy is farm raised, colored to look pink - no labels to indicate how this salmon is processed and what is the omega 3 fatty acid content.

All is not lost. With a little research I found 3 solutions to this dilemma.
1.Trader Joe's has both frozen, free range grass fed Australian beef and lamb and frozen Wild Salmon. They are moderately priced and delicious.
    2. If you like the personal touch, and delivery of wholesome organic meat and poultry, call Esther at the New England Organic Network 1-888-873-6240.
    3. For Super EPA Supplements - Call me I have a professional line of nutritional supplements which will address your omega 3 and other nutritional needs.
