   Hi Everyone,
It has been a long, cold Winter. Spring is almost here. I have been noticing the changes in the light and the days getting longer. My grand-daughter, Cheryl says she can smell spring in the air and is waiting for warmer days.

  • HELLO TO: The Power of Flavonoids
  •    Flavonoids are antioxidants which are found in plants, fruits and vegetables. They can keep you young, your heart healthy, increase immune function, and keep your brain functioning well. Antioxidants help to remove free radicals, which age our cells. The USDA rates blueberries as the first choice for highest antioxidant capacity. Other antioxidant sources include beans and happily, red wine and chocolate. Bon Appetit!

  • GOODBYE TO: 11 Servings of Wheat Bread
  •    Since 1990, the U.S. Dietary Guidelines and the Food Pyramid have recommended that Americans eat six to 11 servings of bread and other grains every day.
We buy whole wheat bread as opposed to white bread because we believe it is more nutritious.
All wheat products, according to some, should not be considered healthy.
I am told wheat, and have believed for a while, is often contaminated with certain toxins, and no matter what the form, white wheat, whole wheat, cracked wheat, sprouted wheat, etc. can contribute to symptoms and problems including:
Rheumatoid arthritis, Headaches, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Bloating and Overweight.
It might be a good experiment to eliminate wheat in your diet for a couple of weeks and see what happens. If you crave it, you may have a wheat sensitivity and it may be making you fat. That's a good enough reason to say goodbye.
If you are feeling better and have more energy after a couple of weeks of not eating wheat - another reason to say goodbye.
Give other grains and carbohydrates a chance. Wheat has been an overused food. A HEALTHY DIET INCLUDES A VARIETY OF FOODS.
Note: I gave wheat up completely for one year and it made quite an improvement in my health and energy.
