HELLO FROM LAURA

Autumn is a time for gathering and preparing for winter. It marks the beginning of a cycle of personal turning inward. It is a good time for cleansing your body and clearing your space. It is especially important to keep your lungs and large intestine clear at this time. These organs play an important role in ridding the body of toxins and maintaining optimum health. While enjoying the fall colors and cool temperatures, breathe fresh air deeply into your lungs and eat foods rich in fiber to clear and cleanse your intestine.

 FOR THE MIND: MIND CLUTTER

Your home should be a place where you live, love, breathe, relax, and create. How can you do those things if you feel hemmed in? A cluttered house equals a cluttered mind. Studies show that those who live with clutter are more likely to experience: headaches, sleeplessness, moodiness, low self esteem, strained relationships, fatigue and low motivation. Clutter doesn't just block your space, it distorts your vision. It can make you forget your priorities and alienate you from your dreams.
 
Envision your ideal life, the atmosphere you want to create in your home, and relationship you want to have with those you live with. Live the life you envisioned: start digging out today. Remember, clutter prevents you from living in the NOW. If we become fixated on stuff from the past or things "we might need someday," we lose the only time we have to be alive: the present moment.
 
 

FOR THE BODY: EATING WELL

Let's have a new start for Autumn. The best way of eating well and saving money is cooking your food. That way you know what's in it.  This information was given to me early on, during my food service years, by a chef at the Harvard Club. 
Fast and Processed food are just not healthy. Read Labels! The quality of most Restaurant food is getting worse.
 
Food choices are most important for everyone, including college students. Food can give you energy, or make you sluggish and fat.  I gained 40 pounds, acquired pimples, and was very tired during my first year of college.  
I have worked with college students, and taught Nutrition at Northeastern University.  Many studentsknow how to take good care of themselves and know how to cook.  For the rest, it is a good skill to acquire.
