FOR THE MIND: LIVING IN THE NOW
When we get upset about present difficulties, our minds may time travel to the past or future.
The past may bring up periods of history which evoke a bit of nostalgia - especially if we connect to a happy past life. If you are upset you are not living centuries ago, I must remind you only one out of three lived to age 40. Most people endured a short difficult life, hardly earning enough to feed themselves and their families.
Obstacles to long life, whether rich or poor, were violence and sickness. Sanitation was unheard of and diseases were rampant. Plagues came in Red, Black and Bubonic, killing half the population in Europe. TB, Pneumonia, and Dysentery, killed off many others. Not so romantic.
Even out personal past may bring up troubled times with a side order of guilt. The future may address worries. If you have a vivid imagination which conjures up negative situations - Stay out of the future and the past.
We know the world we live in is far from perfect. We can improve our personal worlds by LIVING IN THE NOW.
If you are going through a delightful period - enjoy it. If it is a challenging time - Know "This too will pass" and move on. New possibilities are always possible.
Change your mind, change your viewpoint, find something good in everything that happens.
|FOR THE BODY: LOVE VS FEAR
In NIA dance class this week, instructor Lisa spoke of chosing love or fear as related to the physical body, dance and life. The goal is always to find peace through love. What motivates you to dance? Do you do the movements - for love of dance, body, and self or for fear you are not working hard enough, fear you are not keeping up with the other dancers, or fear of you are being judged. These thoughts can be applied to any physical activity or sport. Ask yourself - Am I doing it for love or fear?
This reminded me of a simple but heartfelt book I read, years ago. It was first published in 1979, and became a best seller. This quick read was called, "Love is Letting Go of Fear", by Gerald Jampolsky. New editions have been published over the years - latest in 2010. Jampolsky writes there are only 2 emotions - LOVE OR FEAR.
Choose love - it brings peace.
His chapter titles are important concepts which can be
used as affirmations. Here are five of them.
1. This instant is the only time there is
2. I am not the victim of the world I see
3. I could see peace instead of this
4. The past is over - it can touch me not
5. I am determined to see things differently
FOR THE SPIRIT: DIVINE ORDER
There are no accidents. Everything is in proper order. We see only a piece of the tapestry of life, not the larger universal picture. Experiences are learning opportunities which unfold in a timely manner for our highest good.
We can affirm the healing power of "Divine Order" to create orderly thoughts, harmony and peace.
